Topic statement: The ownership of assault weapons have lead to 2 things safety and violence. Since the Federal Assault Ban expired there have been controversy on the ownership of assault weapons for public and private safety and collection.
tasks: I have to create a yellow-journalism story that will be published in the school newspaper. The topic is up to me, it can be current or have happened in earlier years. I also can create a muckraker cartoon that give a detailed explanation.

steps:1. read through recent newspapers or notes to choose a topic.
2. submit my topic
3.research topic thoroughly and find the 5 W's
-WHO was involved?
The people who are involved in this dilemma are the government and all the people who and don't own an assault weapon. Also, the Pres. of the NRA Ron Schmeits.
-WHAT were they fighting for/seeking?
What they are seeking the answer to is whether or not that assault weapons are legal to own for yourself.
- WHEN in history did this occur?
When this started is 1994 when the Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired.
- WHERE in the United States (geographically)?
Where this is happening is every state in the U.S.
-WHY is changed being called for?
The change is wanted because assault weapons are to deadly to own and that there is too much violence involving assault weapons.
4.create an appropriate title for the article
5.address the 5 W's in the article
6. have a peer review your story
7.hand in final draft

ROUGH DRAFT
The right to bear arms has been in our constitution ever since it was written. But it does not define what is legal to own and what is not. Can you own to much fire power or to strong of a weapon? I think so, I believe that you do not need a assault weapon unless necessary. Like for a job in the Armed Forces or the police. In the next paragraph read closely to see the true meaning of what I' m telling you.

This is not only a problem for you and me, but for the entire United States. Everywhere in the U.S. people are killed and injured by assault weapons. The question that we need an answer to is whether or not that assault weapons are legal to own for yourself. We, the people, need to know the answer and to have the ability to change because assault weapons are to deadly to own. The reason as to why they're to deadly to own is because there is to much violence involving assault weapons. Take the Gifford shooting for example, the shooter used a Glock 19 and the magazine held 30 bullets. I'm no gun expert, but I do know that it is semi-automatic and has a real punch. This all started when the Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired in 1994. That permitted any gun that had a pistol grip and a detachable magazine. The people who are big role players in this dilemma are the government, NRA Pres. Ron Schmeits, and the all the who own or don't an assault weapon. Reader please, if you or your parents own an assault weapon, use it responsibly. I hope you got the message and use it wisely.

The constitution allows us to own a gun for only necessary needs. For say, protection, hunting, a job, etc. Guns are not meant for violence, but for survival. Just remember that just because you want to own one doesn't mean that you need one. Like what your mother always says. Thank You.

You do not gangsters or crazy people walking around the streets with that in there hands. This all started when the Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired in 1994. That permitted any gun that had a pistol grip and a detachable magazine. There are a lot of people involved in this, Congress, National Rifle Association President Ron Schmeits, and everyone that owns or doesn't own an assault weapon. Reader please, if you or your parents own an assault weapon please use it responsible, the are meant as protection not as a killing device. I hope you got the message.
